GETTING TO KNOW TIMES SQUARE

The Times Square Neighborhood, also often referred to as the Theater District, is one of the most visited locations in New York City as well as one of the most famous places known worldwide. Times Square itself serves as a major commercial destination as well as a photographic landmark and an entertainment center for visitors and New Yorkers the like.

THE HISTORY BEHIND TIMES SQUARE

Most people do not know that Times Square is not actually its original name, it was only named as such in 1904 after The New York Times had relocated its headquarters to the previously named neighborhood called ‘Longacre Square’, which we today know as Times Square. Shortly after The New York Times relocated to Times Square, their headquarters began the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop on the New Year’s Eve of 1907 and ever since, has consistently attracted over one million visitors every year to witness its glorious descent.

TIMES SQUARE’S POPULARITY AND IMAGE

The world famous district of Manhattan, the renown Times Square, has been featured in an incredible amount of movies, television, music videos and so much more. The most renown depictions of the neighborhood before its renovation and cleaning up are Taxi Driver, filmed in 1976 and Midnight Cowboy 1969. Movies such as Deep Impact or the Godzilla film of 1998 show Times Square’s iconic destruction and in recent movies such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain America and Transformers, Times Square remains a great addition to any movie or television series.
